New Do

Dacia Grace and I went to the local beauty college this afternoon for hair cuts.  I do not have a good one yet of me but here are a couple of her new cut.  The beautician curled her hair after she was done but unfortunately I did not have a camera with me.  So without further ado……

Gung Hey Fat Choy!

January 28th was the celebration of the Chinese New Year in Seattle’s International District.  We did not know this when we planned our weekend so we were quite excited when we found out that we would be there.

We had hoped to get there for the big parade but we did not make it in time.  We did however arrive in time to find the traditional lion and dragon dances at individual establishments.  After the dance a string of fire crackers were lit.  At the same time as all of this was going on, the kung-fo association was performing on the with the drums and the gong!  Imagine all of this chaos spilling out on the streets.  What a festive time!

OH MY EARS!

On the left by the black pipe you can see a string of firecrackers hanging down from the awning  that have lit.

Here they are making their way down the crowded streets to the next establishment where they will repeat the same dance and ceremony.

The members of the kung fo association rotate between the dragon and the lion and then each of the drum positions.  The music never stops!

Here they are posing in from on the restaurant!  Sorry it is so blurry.  I had the camera above my head shooting “into the dark.”

Here we are after a very fun celebration dinner!  The waitress was kind enough to take the picture but kept moving.  She was in a hurry to get home for the evening as the restaurant was closing early therefore the blurry picture.

Seattle

We went to Seattle with our good friends and had so much fun.  We went to South Center Mall, bowling, visited Pike’s Place Market and the International District where we celebrated the beginning of the Chinese New Year.

Blurry but such a fun memory.

Dacia Grace asked them to throw a fish for her.  They threw it so fast she almost kissed it!  BLECH!

Science

We love the fact that My Father’s World provides so many hands on activities.  Another thing that we love is the way that the Bible is so integrated into the curriculum.

Today’s activity was to try new fruit and count the seeds that we found in the fruit.  The new fruit that we tried was a papaya which had…..

476 seeds!

Trees!

We have rearranged the science units to adjust for the Oregon weather.  Today we decided to walk down the street to observe the logs from some Ponderosa Pine Trees that were cut down. (At least that is what I was told they were).  We were hoping to count the rings, look at the logs and take some rubbings of the bark.  When we arrived, we found that the men were there to load the logs onto the trucks that would transport them to the mills.  What a treat!

It’s a TIE!

For posterity sake, here is a picture of what the game board looked like today.  Dacia Grace and Daddy TIED at checkers.  Actually by the time they were done playing, Dacia Grace had tied him three games in a row!  Watch out, her checker skills are really coming along!

Ready for Swim Class

You thought it was a picture of Dacia Grace didn’t you?  LOL!  Sorry no pictures of her in a bathing suit will be posted on our blog.  :)

For her birthday she received Bolt as a gift from a dear friend.  Bolt accompanies her everywhere!  (Think Baba and then you see the picture.)

Anyway, the other day Dacia Grace was told to get ready for swim class.  When she came down ready to go, she had Bolt ready as well.  What do you think?  Pretty classy, wouldn’t you say?

Science and Art All In One

I-Goo was kind enough to send Dacia Grace a Crayola Crayon Maker for Christmas/birthday.  Today we decided to use it for an all in one class of science and art.  Here are some of the fun times.

Sunday Afternoon Naptime

Most Sunday afternoons Arthur will take a nap in a recliner that we affectionately refer to as “The Grandpa Chair.”  Tia usually always joins him.  The other Sunday I was able to take this series of photos.  It clearly shows the progression that occurs and the “conversation” that ensues!

DSC_0122 Hello!  Hello!

DSC_0123I want a nap too!

DSC_0124Please will you let me join you?

With very little encouragement from Arthur, Tia joins him.

When I Grow Up......

Heard at dinner tonight......

Dacia Grace:  "There are only three things that I want to be when I grow up."

Mom and Dad:  "What."

Dacia Grace:  "A swim teacher.  A barista.  A doctor."

Dad to Dacia Grace:  "What kind of doctor?"

Dacia Grace:  "A kid's doctor!"

Mom:  "A pediatrician."

Dad:  "Like Dr. Ruby or Dr. Drake?"

Dacia Grace:  "Dr. Ruby."

Mom to Dad:  "Guess we better start saving our money."

Dacia Grace:  "I'll get in for free because I'm cute!"

Smirk.  Smirk.  Smirk!
