January 28th was the celebration of the Chinese New Year in Seattle’s International District. We did not know this when we planned our weekend so we were quite excited when we found out that we would be there.
We had hoped to get there for the big parade but we did not make it in time. We did however arrive in time to find the traditional lion and dragon dances at individual establishments. After the dance a string of fire crackers were lit. At the same time as all of this was going on, the kung-fo association was performing on the with the drums and the gong! Imagine all of this chaos spilling out on the streets. What a festive time!
OH MY EARS!
On the left by the black pipe you can see a string of firecrackers hanging down from the awning that have lit.
Here they are making their way down the crowded streets to the next establishment where they will repeat the same dance and ceremony.
The members of the kung fo association rotate between the dragon and the lion and then each of the drum positions. The music never stops!
Here they are posing in from on the restaurant! Sorry it is so blurry. I had the camera above my head shooting “into the dark.”
Here we are after a very fun celebration dinner! The waitress was kind enough to take the picture but kept moving. She was in a hurry to get home for the evening as the restaurant was closing early therefore the blurry picture.
